Introductions

Hi, everyone! I am pleased as punch to see how many people have subscribed to [community profile] ficbooks, and I thought maybe we could get the ball rolling by having some chatter in the comments. So, I have a little introductory questionnaire for those of you who would like to fill it out or just talk amongst yourselves.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to bring 'em up here or PM me.

1. Which ereader(s) and ebook format(s) do you use? Sony Touch 650 - epub

2. When and where do you do most of your fic ebook reading? Pretty much anytime, anywhere. I read in waiting rooms, in the tub, in bed, on my love seat, in my hammock, and in the massage chair at my chiropractor's.

3. Do you prefer ebook paragraphs separated by a blank line or indented? Indented! I will dump a book if I can't remove the blank lines.

4. What is the most recent fic ebook you either downloaded or read? No idea what I've read most recently but I just finally got a good copy of Dragonlord by Icarus to download after months of trying to get the copy I downloaded originally to work on my ereader.

5. In which fandom(s) do you primarily read fic? Do you ever read fic ebooks outside your primary fic-reading fandom(s)? Currently, I have the following fandoms on my ereader:
HP
Liaden Universe
Merlin
Narnia
NCIS
SGA
SG1
Vorkosigan
White Collar
However, eventually, I'll do a fic-gathering session for ST:Voyager, Highlander, Due South and The Sentinel as well. So much fic. So little time.

6. Have you made any fic ebooks, or are there any ebooks of fic you've written? If you don't make ebooks or write fic, where is your favorite place to download fic ebooks? I regularly make ebooks of fics that I want to read. There are a ton of tools out there these days which makes it a fairly painless process. I always check to see if the fic is on AO3 first though.

7. What are you hoping to get from this community (e.g. more fic ebooks to read, a place to post your fic ebooks, the skills to make ebooks...)? I'd love to discuss the ins and outs of making ebooks. I use Calibre along with other tools and I know that there is more that I could be doing that I don't have the knowledge for yet.

There are a lot of long fics in those fandoms I have not yet done ebook-making for. Eventually, I'll go exploring my old haunts and stock up.

1. Which ereader(s) and ebook format(s) do you use? Sony 350 (I think) - epub

2. When and where do you do most of your fic ebook reading? - train and on holiday

3. Do you prefer ebook paragraphs separated by a blank line or indented? - Not sure I have a strong preference - probably blank line.

4. What is the most recent fic ebook you either downloaded or read? I'm about halfway through Shadow's Falling by [livejournal.com profile] cordeliadelayne

5. In which fandom(s) do you primarily read fic? Do you ever read fic ebooks outside your primary fic-reading fandom(s)?

I primarily read Primeval fic, but I also seem to have downloaded a lot of stuff from Sherlock and Lord Peter Wimsey fandoms.

6. Have you made any fic ebooks, or are there any ebooks of fic you've written? If you don't make ebooks or write fic, where is your favorite place to download fic ebooks?

I use my ebook reader almost exclusively to read longer fics that I don't have time/don't want to read on my computer screen, so I'm constantly downloading and converting stuff to epub. I've converted a couple of my own fics as well for one reason or another.

7. What are you hoping to get from this community (e.g. more fic ebooks to read, a place to post your fic ebooks, the skills to make ebooks...)?

Hmm... I've only had an ebook reader about 4 months so I'm guessing there is lots of stuff about readers and ebooks that I don't know, and don't even know that I don't know. So I'm hoping to get a better feel for the technology. I guess I'm also hoping for good recs for longer free original fiction that I might want to read.

1. Which ereader(s) and ebook format(s) do you use?
I currently read with iPad gen 1 with ibooks (epub) as well as Safari (html). I used to read using a Windows Mobile platfrom PDA (.lit format).

2. When and where do you do most of your fic ebook reading?
In bed, the couch, or on the can; early mornings or at night, after work. :)

3. Do you prefer ebook paragraphs separated by a blank line or indented?
Depends on the formatting options, but both?

4. What is the most recent fic ebook you either downloaded or read?
[livejournal.com profile] seven_3_oh's Primary (Legend of the Seeker; Cara/Kahlan femslash).

5. In which fandom(s) do you primarily read fic? Do you ever read fic ebooks outside your primary fic-reading fandom(s)?
I read a lot of femslash-related fandoms, like Xena, Glee, Legend of the Seeker, Devil Wears Prada, Star Trek: Voyager, Harry Potter...

As for fic ebooks outside my primary fic-reading fandoms, usually if someone recommends it to me. I wouldn't necessarily venture into reading it as an ebook.

6. Have you made any fic ebooks, or are there any ebooks of fic you've written? If you don't make ebooks or write fic, where is your favorite place to download fic ebooks?

I have made several fic ebooks, both in lit and epub formats but they're mostly for personal consumption, as there's a possibility that these fics may be eligible for future publication.

Favorite places to download ebooks:
PDA fiction (femslash specific, maintained by dany) (ereader, plain doc, isilo, mobi, msreader)
Passion and Perfection: E-books by (femslash specific, maintained by [personal profile] ralst) (epub, pdb, mobi)
Sans Paper (femslash specific, maintained by Alex(?)) (epub, mobi, pdb)
Archive Of Our Own (multi-genre archive project supported on donations by members of OTW) (epub, mobi, pdf, html)

7. What are you hoping to get from this community (e.g. more fic ebooks to read, a place to post your fic ebooks, the skills to make ebooks...)?
Recommended ebooks, perhaps, as entries into possible new fandoms genres?

8. Anything else you'd like to add?
Hopefully this will be a fruitful community be in! :)

1. Which ereader(s) and ebook format(s) do you use?

I have a Nook (not the color one), and I usually read PDFs and EPUBs on it. It can do .doc files but not well, and it won't do .txt ones to my immense annoyance.

2. When and where do you do most of your fic ebook reading?

Mostly during long trips where I'm on a plane or while my husband is driving. Also my husband likes to take the Nook to the field with him because it takes up less space than a bunch of paperbacks.

3. Do you prefer ebook paragraphs separated by a blank line or indented?

I'm fine either way.

4. What is the most recent fic ebook you either downloaded or read?

Xanthe's epic BDSM 'verse that crosses over NCIS and Stargate Atlantis.

5. In which fandom(s) do you primarily read fic? Do you ever read fic ebooks outside your primary fic-reading fandom(s)?

My first and forever fandom is the Next-Gen-and-onward Star Trek. I read those, and more recently NCIS, Vorkosigan Saga, and Stargate, mostly SG-1 slash. :P

6. Have you made any fic ebooks, or are there any ebooks of fic you've written? If you don't make ebooks or write fic, where is your favorite place to download fic ebooks?

Nah. I haven't written much lately, and no-one wants to read my crappy Jonny Quest TRA fic from ninth grade. :P

7. What are you hoping to get from this community (e.g. more fic ebooks to read, a place to post your fic ebooks, the skills to make ebooks...)?

More ebooks to read, and the skills to make ebooks should I ever get around to finishing my original novels. :)

8. Anything else you'd like to add?

Um...not really. I think this comm is a great idea!

I have a bunch of (mostly awesome) Paris/Kim fics if you want those, though I saved all of 'em in plain text since that's what most of them were posted as.
